Light and Shade after Kevin MacPherson

Another painting in my series of painting my way through Kevin MacPherson's book.  I just loved the way the sunlight spilled across his painting, making bright highlights on the mountains and trees, and casting the deep shadows.  His painting is called, "Palm Desert".

I am learning not to try to duplicate his paintings exactly.  I can't actually,  but I'm no longer grief stricken about it.  I am just enjoying the process.  I think these are my best trees, so far.    I thoroughly enjoyed this painting.  Fun!

And deep gratitude and thank you's to everyone who stopped by, commented and inquired about me during my long dry spell.   You guys are great!

  1. This is truly a good painting and you captured the sun hitting hills and trees perfectly.
Although you are using Kevin's influence I can still see the Virginia touch. Great combination.

  6. Boy, Virginia, you nailed the greens of the trees. That's always hard for me, but you have cool/warm, light/dark and bright/less bright. Also, you have a great variety of tree shapes. Julie Davis talks about active/inactive sides of trees which, again, you accomplished!

  8. You did a wonderful job on this, Virginia...I can feel the beautiful air! I think that is the most interesting thing to me, when a painting can make you feel as if you are outside while you are looking at a 2-dimensional painting! It is magic.... You "captured the sunshine"! (MacPherson's book is a great one!)

  13. Thanks, Nan. I really don't think I can take credit, since I am copying someone else's work. I'm learning a lot, but I don't know if I can do it on my own. Not yet, any way.
