Glass jar and wildflowers

I've been wanting to paint glass, so this morning on my walk I picked a few wildflowers still blooming merrily by the road.  I brought them home and put them in a little jar of water.  I was pleased with the glass, but not with the flowers.  I haven't figured out how to paint values in flowers yet.  I think these look amateurish.  Which I am of course, but I have high aspirations!

  1. You've done a lovely job:) I will say from my own experience that yellow is a hard color to paint values with. You might want to photograph your still life and print out a black and white version to help you see the values. Your painting is a breath of fresh air, symbolic to me of this second little bit of a summer that we're having right now at my house. Great job with the jar also.

  3. I like your painting, Virginia!
At a first glance, I straighten slightly the jar,I'd put a horizontal line somewhere bzhind it, to make a plan;the transparency is very good, and I like the way you chose to paint the flowers!

  4. I like it anyway. Very cheerful, and the flowers have life.

  5. Thank you, Sylviane! Actually, I tilted the painting when I photographed it somehow. So the picture is tilted, but not the painting. And I think it could use a horizontal line. Thank you for the suggestions.
