Glass bottles

In this study, I wanted to try to capture the translucence of glass.  When I finished, I decided that the thing I like best is the shadow of the glass carafe.  Isn't that funny how we like one little part of a painting?

If you want to see glass beautifully done, check out Carrie Waller's award-winning work here  or here:   Her watercolor work is breathtaking.

  1. Virginia, thanks so much for the shout out. Just cruising through my blog list and what a happy little surprise:) You made my day!!! Your painting is terrific, and I know what you mean about loving one part of a painting, or even worse having one area that really bugs me (talking about my work here). Thanks so much for being a terrific blogger buddy:)

  3. I know what you mean about having parts you're really pleased with in a painting. I think those small well executed passages are what help us grow as artists. I like your green bottle and the depth you created in it. Virginia thanks so much for visiting and your comments, which I always love. You seem to be so full of energy and enthusiasm! Carrie is right, you are a terrific blogger buddy.

  4. Thanks you, Claire. I'm a gee- whiz kind of girl, I guess. I haven't lost my enjoyment and amazement at the small things of life. I love looking at my blog list and seeing what has been posted. I may not leave an articulate analysis of a painting, but I can tell you when I like it!

  5. I'm glad your grandson is better! And it's good to see your posts again on my blog list. I like the shadows of the glass too, and I like the reflections on the carafe itself.

  6. Painting glass is tricky business! I, too, love going after its translucency. Love the variety of shades in your green bottle.
