Work in Progress

Like most everyone,  I find these days very hectic.  Shopping and decorating and baking take up lots of time.  In addition, we are in the house-building phase, so I've been spending lots of time meeting with workmen and on making choices for paint colors, light fixtures, flooring, etc.

So not much time for painting this week.  I am working on a larger painting for my weekly class.  I bought a book about David Leffel, called "Oil Painting Secrets from a Master".  I find his paintings a little dark for my taste, but I do like the looseness of his brush strokes.  So I am trying to learn by painting a copy of one of the illustrations in the book.

This is just a corner of the canvas.  Maybe I won't get arrested.  I'm not trying to sell this or pass it off as my own.  Just trying to learn a new technique.   It's all I have to show for this week.

  1. I think you've done a really nice job . . . a lot looser than your usual! You're not trying to pass it off as a Leffel . . . it's more you than him, anyway, so you probably don't need to look out for the art police. :-)

  3. It does look good. What's your prognosis, or shall we wait 'til you're done to say?
I've been wondering how it was going with your house.
And I've been wanting to ask you how you got your German Christmas ornaments. Did you visit Germany?

  5. Thanks, Caladh and Linda. I have only tried this one time, so I don't know if I will be able to incorporate this technique. I hope so.

Our house is coming along. Still months to go, though. It has a roof and outsides. No rooms yet, though.

My husband was in the Air Force. We lived in Vicenza, Italy for two years (paradise) and we visited Germany on vacation several times.

  6. I like it! It's a great way to learn. Doesn't he have some dvds too? Finding time is always a battle for us all I think.

  7. Virginia,
If this corner is any indication, then I bet the bigger painting is wonderful. Like these pears...loose and wonderful colors. Nice!
