As you can see, all that was left were the bottles after Thanksgiving. My husband even asks me now if I want to keep a bottle before he throws it out.
This painting was fun today, and I was surprised that I completed it in about an hour and a half. I kept trying to remember to paint "shapes" not objects. Now that I've photographed it, I can see the drawing errors, but I still like this one. I plan to paint these again.

Lovely colors. I think you can pretty much draw with any color...I've heard of all kinds of "starts"
ReplyDeleteVery fun post Virginia! I love the color scheme and the composition. Great painting! I too couldn't decide if I should throw away a couple of wine bottles. I'm regretting getting rid of the blue one, oh well, guess I'll have to drink some more wine:) Oh, the things we do for art!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janice. I imagine you are right. I knew someone who always draws with purple. I tried that and it looked nice. It was such a long time ago I'd forgotten! I'll have to try your red oxide, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carrie. Yes, we suffer for our muse. But someone has to drink that wine!
ReplyDeleteReally nice variety of greens, Virginia. There's a Morandi-like sense about these bottles, like they're silently waiting for something. I've also saved a few bottles and look forward to trying them.
ReplyDeleteVirginia,
ReplyDeleteI like this one a lot. The various shades of green are really delightful and the labels on the 2 bottles are really good. I don't see any drawing issues- just a great fun painting with good composition. Now when I select wine, I will choose based on bottle color and the foil wrappers:)
I think your limited palatte is the secret of ur quick and good looking still lifes!
ReplyDeleteI'm working with some series of my son's portrait with different expressions.....don't know abt the result?...:)
What a wonderful use of green. Beautifully done. The glass bottles are so fragile and I love the highlights...
ReplyDeleteI really like it! To think you do that in such a short amount of time is impressive to me.
ReplyDeleteexcellent,bravo
ReplyDeleteIt's just fabulous Virginia! I love those green colors! It's really expressive too. :)
ReplyDeleteNice bottles Virginia. Transparent and colorful. I like the shadow of the label on the middle one, and the sheen on the label of the right one.
ReplyDeleteWonderful job on this! Welcome to blogspot - I too have just started to paint again and am enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteLove this composition, and the greens!
ReplyDeleteFunny how that works, huh, Virginia? I find the same thing! One way to 'pre' see it is to use a little compact mirror to view the piece before it's 'finished'. But whatever you think of the drawing I really like the composition, and it's a nice painting with good rhythm! Keep saving those bottles!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a fun Thanksgiving...great job on the bottles Virginia!
ReplyDeleteWonderful harmony. Great glass and story too.
