Snow scene in Taos
11 X 14 Oil on stretched canvas
I painted this from a photo I took on our trip to Taos at Christmas. There was still snow on the ground under trees and shrubs. I kept taking pictures and exclaiming, "look at all the colors!"
I was pretty happy with how this turned out. It's my first attempt at using my own photos, rather than copying a painting. I have another one that I'm working on. I took lots of pictures, so I'll probably have a few more of basically this same color palette.
Thanks for stopping by!

Lovely painting, Virginia. I'd rather have Southwest snow as opposed to New England snow. Our New England snow lasts a lot longer!
ReplyDeleteSo good to see you're back, Virginia!!! Lovely painting—great subdued palette (I feel the chill) and wonderful brush work. So great that you're composing your own landscapes now.
ReplyDeleteA lovely painting. I think you found a very nice colour too for the background hills. Great job!
ReplyDeleteUne tentative qui s'avère réussie. A renouveler ma chère !
ReplyDeleteJ'aime beaucoup les nuances de couleurs.
Gros bisous
Martine says! An attempt which proved successful. To be repeated my dear!
DeleteI love the shades of colors.
Kisses

ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC work, Virginia. It's such a wonderful scene and you captured it beautifully.!! You're truly getting better and better with every piece you finish!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful work Virginia, you certainly did capture the atmosphere, well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very pretty scene that you have captured beautifully. It is nice to see snow amongst greenery rather than bare branches.
