Taos Snow Scene
This scene was painted from a photo I took in Taos at Christmas. We rented a house out of town with our extended family. Several mornings we went for a walk along the gravel road, trouping along with a couple of dogs.
The dogs were so funny running out into the trees and then back to their humans to touch base, then running out again. They covered twice as much ground as we did, and I think they probably enjoyed it twice as much. So many exciting smells!
This scene was on a cloudy day, and the light was very flat. I loved the mistiness over the mountains. And again I was amazed at how much color there was in the winter grasses and shrubbery.
Thanks for stopping by!

That painting conjures familiar feelings from my new home. Well done, Mrs. Floyd!
ReplyDeleteNice work Virginia. I love the softness in this and the mood it evokes.
ReplyDeleteThe atmospheric quality of this painting is fabulous! Good job, Virginia!
ReplyDeleteThis is masterful! The close values are modeled beautifully and I like the subtle warm and cools too.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful grey day painting. I think the time you spent in the place itself helped inform your work with a real sense of place. It's very hard to access that from just a photo.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Virginia!
ReplyDeleteLove the subtle colors:D
This made my heart go to a faster pitter patter... It is truly beautiful and one of my favorite places too.

ReplyDeleteVirginia, I love how you chose a certain style and chose to study it for better accuracy. I love your landscapes. Keep it up. I only wish I had that dedication. I am all over the place.

ReplyDeleteHi Virginia,
ReplyDeleteI love your snowy scenes. It is such an unusual landscape to my eyes. That sort of terrain doesn't look like the sort you'd expect to find snow.
You've really captured the overcast mood perfectly.
This is lovely Virginia! You have captured so much distance .......wonderful !
