Red Plums



8 inch X 8 inch oil on canvas panel

I really enjoyed painting this one.  I think all the landscapes I've been painting helped me with my color mixing.  This one went quickly, and was one of those happy times at the easel.

 I used Alizarin Crimson darkened with Thalo Green for the darkest areas on the plums.  I lightened Alizarin Crimson with Cad Red Light and Cad Yellow medium.  And the background is Ultramarine Blue mixed with Titanium white.   For the highlights on the plums, I added a  little white to my plum "puddle".

    Red and blue is a winning combination. Great work, Virginia. Nice to see you back at still life too. It's fun to switch back and forth between subject matter.

    Hi Virginia! This is really a lovely painting. Great composition and super colors and rendering. I don't always pop over here as regularly as I'd like, but when I do, it's exciting to see your progress. You really do keep getting better and better. Your latest landscapes are exceptional! Green is such a hard color to master -- and yours are lovely -- very lifelike. Keep painting!

    This is a wonderful painting! The plums look as though I could reach right in and grab one...they make me desire one now. Great composition and color.
