Light and Shade after Kevin MacPherson
Another painting in my series of painting my way through Kevin MacPherson's book. I just loved the way the sunlight spilled across his painting, making bright highlights on the mountains and trees, and casting the deep shadows. His painting is called, "Palm Desert".
I am learning not to try to duplicate his paintings exactly. I can't actually, but I'm no longer grief stricken about it. I am just enjoying the process. I think these are my best trees, so far. I thoroughly enjoyed this painting. Fun!
And deep gratitude and thank you's to everyone who stopped by, commented and inquired about me during my long dry spell. You guys are great!

This is truly a good painting and you captured the sun hitting hills and trees perfectly.
ReplyDeleteAlthough you are using Kevin's influence I can still see the Virginia touch. Great combination.
Beautiful! You captured the light masterfully and your trees are gorgeous! What a great idea and good for you- Glad to see you back- you were much missed:)
ReplyDeleteNice landscape Virginia. It has depth and solid lighting to it. Your trees did come out great. Glad you had fun with it.
ReplyDeleteI love this painting, Virginia!! I love the light hitting the trees and the mountain!!..You should be very pleased with this one!!
ReplyDeleteA very majestic painting. The mountains and trees are great. Wonderful light!
ReplyDeleteBoy, Virginia, you nailed the greens of the trees. That's always hard for me, but you have cool/warm, light/dark and bright/less bright. Also, you have a great variety of tree shapes. Julie Davis talks about active/inactive sides of trees which, again, you accomplished!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Virginia! Beautiful light . . . so glad to see you back to painting,
ReplyDeleteand hopefully, feeling 100%!!
You did a wonderful job on this, Virginia...I can feel the beautiful air! I think that is the most interesting thing to me, when a painting can make you feel as if you are outside while you are looking at a 2-dimensional painting! It is magic.... You "captured the sunshine"! (MacPherson's book is a great one!)
ReplyDeleteLovely trees. This is really helping you to see things differently. I do like your style that is coming through.
ReplyDeleteGone for a dry spell, and they you come back with this new look in your art. It's wonderful - I love how you are doing the trees. So glad to see you back, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Virginia. I was without internet for a couple of months, so I missed your blog too. I hope you are recovered and enjoying the holidays. I like your landscapes. Are you going to paint in the open air?
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
I thought I had left a comment on this but I don't see it. Virginia, love the new work you've been doing. You have embraced the landscape and it is working wonderfully! So glad to see you back painting - hope your holidays were good.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nan. I really don't think I can take credit, since I am copying someone else's work. I'm learning a lot, but I don't know if I can do it on my own. Not yet, any way.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are up and around, hope all is well with you and your daughter. Looks like you are in the swing of things with these last 2 paintings!! Nice work, good luck with your challenge, I like K. M's work and style, you'll learn a lot...
ReplyDeleteWell done
